Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to aging knowledge, attitudes and supporting the aged awareness for research in undergraduate nursing students.

Methods: The participants were 180 nursing students in K university in G-do. Data were collected from March 15 to April 15, 2016, and were analyzed by using mean, percentage, t-test, Pearson s correlation coefficient in SPSS/WIN15.0 program.

Results: The mean of the aging knowledge score was 12.50, the mean of aging attitudes score was 3.07 out of 5. and the mean of awareness about supporting the aged score was 4.16 out of 5. Awareness about supporting the aged showed a positive correlation with aging knowledge(r=.34, p<.001). Awareness about supporting the aged showed a positive correlation with aging attitudes (r=.30, p<.001).

Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate a need to develop program for undergraduate nursing students to increase correct aging knowledge, encourage appropriate aging attitudes and awareness about supporting the aged.
